milan

After a shakey start on my trip to Milan which included a huge bill for excess baggage weight and getting lost trying to find my hotel without a mobile phone that worked or internet access I have settled into my new city. In a strange way it is beautiful here, there is graffiti and everything is old and worn, yet I love it. Maybe it is the strength of the heat getting to me and frying my mind but it is so pretty, and I haven’t even had the opportunity to go into the centre of the city yet either.

I had a little look around on Saturday evening when I took this photograph of the river just behind our hotel. Our hotel also have a really cool bar called MOD just outside of it, and on Saturday night it was filled to the brim with hipster types I have become accustomed to only seeing in London. I would love to go there while I am here and befriend some of them, especially the incredibly attractive men I saw outside at the weekend.

On Sunday the riverbanks you can see in this image turned into the most amazing market selling everything from old Lomo cameras, to fine jewellery, furniture, clothes and a particularly interesting stall selling old clock and watch faces. They even had some pocket watches which were so pretty, I may have to purchase one at this weekends market.

As for the course I am really enjoying it so far, it is quite challenging and we have learned a lot already. One of our lecturers has so much industry experience its crazy! We are going for an outing tomorrow to see more of the city and to scout out locations to do our photo shoots for which we have been doing the researching for outfit ideas over the last few days.

I have made a few friends so far, including my room mate Erica who mostly keeps herself to herself yet is still rather lovely, a girl called Sophia on my course who is my work partner for these next few weeks and 3 American girls whom I think are hilarious. We all went out last night as a welcome to NABA (the school I am at) evening which included some free drinks and food, which I took full advantage of. Apparently my accent is the source of much amusement to everybody else but I don’t really mind. I had a good time and stumbled home through a torrential down pour of rain that didn’t affect the heat one bit. I have met a few other girls on my course and some people from other courses also, and hopefully some more characters this evening as we are going to an event set up for all the summer schools of Milan.

So far I have been having a blast, although would love the chance to go and sit in a park somewhere on one of my days off to work on the “tan” and have a bit of a shop. I hope to update you again soon with some pictures!
