With the release of their first album late last year Noah and the Whale hit the mainstream as geeky indie folk types who write melancholic songs perfect for broken hearted listening. Less than a year later the band are to release their second album First Days of Spring. The release of this albums also marks the release of the film of the same title directed by Noah and the Whale which will beĀ availableĀ to buy as an album and film bundle from all good record stores. The sound of the new album builds on the debut, moving to a richer more atmospheric offering. The trailer for the 45 minute film is below, showing a brief snippet of what looks like a beautiful and moving piece of cinema.

To celebrate the release of both the film and album The First Days of Spring, the band will be playing at a free show at Pure Groove Record Store, London on August 24th with a full string section. You can also watch the film at the following cinemas accompanied by a Q&A session after each viewing of the film with Noah and the Whale front man Charlie Fink…

10th August – Cameo Picturehouse – Edinburgh
30th August – Watershed – Bristol
31st August – Cornerhouse – Manchester
1st September – Film Theatre – Glasgow
2nd September – Showroom – Sheffield
4th September – ICA – London

If I make it to the London showing I will be asking if the name of the releases and content of the album and film have anything to do with the Salvador Dali painting of the same name,
