Work Hard Play Hard Smile Easy

Sunday 6th June 2010 - Write a comment

Well as you know I have been spending a lot of time playing recently, I have also been working hard too, promise! You may remember earlier in the year I told you I have a weeks work experience at Q Magazine. Well I start next Monday and I am very excited. However this week (tomorrow – eek!) I am starting at Theo PR a music and fashion PR company based just off Old Street in London. I am so happy I got this placement as am really looking forward to the challenges it will present. On the same day as securing this placement I also got myself a months internship at the fashion desk at The Daily Express in September. While waiting for my interview I also saw Natalie Cassidy which is always nice. Anyway, I am so stoked and don’t really know how these things happen to me but just eternally grateful that they do! Hopefully there will be lots of interesting and fun things for me to update you with, wish me luck!

Good Day

Sunday 6th June 2010 - Write a comment

Hello!

I know its been quite a while since I last posted, this has been because I have been busy enjoying my 21st Birthday and the Birthdays of quite a few of my very good friends! I have just recovered from a week off work which I spent in the best way possible, getting wasted and celebrating being young, alive and free. It was perfect and I want to thank everybody who was there and everybody who helped me celebrate becoming a real adult with my turning 21. Here are a few pictures that I think will capture the essence of where I have been…

Hope your all splendid,

Ebury Birthday!

Tuesday 18th May 2010 - 2 Comments

This year for my 21st Birthday on Sunday 30th May my parents have finally granted my wish of giving me a designer bag. After so much deliberating and researching its silly I settled on this Vivienne Westwood Ebury beauty in Rose. My mum ordered it a long time ago, letting me have a little look and try on about a month ago to make sure this was the bag for me! I can’t tell you how excited I am to get my grubby little mitts on, the now affectionately named, Vivvy in a week or so. I have been planning what to wear her with forever and finally get to show her off to the whole world. Please excuse my mug in the picture above, thats what I looked like on Easter Sunday morning without any make up on,

Tattoo’s

Tuesday 18th May 2010 - Write a comment

On the 12th May 2009 I got my first tattoo, which you can see above. It says “Adventure” and is on the inside of my left arm, facing my heart. The tattoo acts as a reminder that life is one long adventure and that you should live it as such, doing and seeing as much as possible in the short time we are each given. Since this tattoo I have acquired three more all of which there are pictures below, however my “Adventure” tattoo stands as my favourite. Perhaps it always will be, as it was my first, and we all know you never really get over a first love. I plan to get many more in the future years (sorry Mum) and just wanted to share my babies with you.

My next tattoo came just over a month later as a birthday present from my best friend Charlie. My ladybug has 20 dots to celebrate my 20th Birthday, I got it the day after seeing Kings of Leon at the O2 with Charlie (which is where the gold band is from) which really encapsulates our friendship. Almost 5 years of friendship that has involved going to far too many gigs to remember, laughing hysterically all of the time and a bond that won’t ever leave me, just like this tattoo. After I got this done I sat and held Charlie’s hand as she had the words “Sunday Girl” put on the same wrist as a dedication to her favourite musician, Blondie.

My most recent tattoos are a heart pad lock and key on the insides of both my wrists. The meanings behind them are obvious, to wear your heart on your sleeve and to be not be guarded with letting people in. I think I am a bit of a hippy at heart and these two tattoo’s show that. I wouldn’t want to be anything other than giving, easy going and affectionate though. There are so many ideas and plans for more tattoo’s that I couldn’t possibly share them all with you. What tattoo’s do you have?

Frock Me Interview with Henry Holland & Gemma Cairney

Wednesday 12th May 2010 - Write a comment

Last week I was invited to a bloggers event by TK Maxx to do a round table interview with designer Henry Holland and stylist Gemma Cairney, two of the stars from Frock Me with TK Maxx. I was so super excited and loved every moment of meeting both Henry and Gemma who were so lovely and funny I didn’t want to stop gossiping!

Henry and Gemma let loose a fair few secrets ‘off the record’ and a fair few more that I can share with you. Whatever pre conceptions I had of either of them were totally shattered and I am now a bit of an uber fan, and totally jealous of their awesome lives.

Dressed in equally as enviable outfits, Henry and Gemma have us en rapped in their bubbly banter from the moment we meet to our parting of ways. Both endlessly mischievous and full of exciting antidotes from Frock Me and their own lives I left feeling rather admirable of the pair.

Working as a Fashion Journalist before going into design Henry informed me that he considered the University I currently attend as we shake hands and do all those formal introductions that are required at such events, a fact that makes me feel rather proud.

Armed with a list of questions I sat quietly for the first few moments before cracking into my list as the others began the conversation. Admitting that Tiny Temper was his favourite guest of the show, Henry spills that he is an avid fan of the rapper, before excitedly admitting that he would love to have Jay-Z as a future guest. Piping up Gemma exclaims “Yes! A Jay-Z and Beyonce frock off!”. Recoiling slightly however still smitten with the idea Henry replies “Oh my God, I would be too scared”.

Moving onto more banter about the show we ask the pair what others trends we can expect, Henry replies “Well there is Romance, Festival, Prints and Americana to come” while Gemma reflects on the previous trends from the show telling us “heres a little tip I’ve learnt, when it comes to underwear as outer, just… beware!”. A top tip from a top stylist.

Henry continues “It’s the Lady Gaga effect, on the catwalk, on music, on fashion, on other musicians. Image is very important” however as we all know, high fashion doesn’t always transcend to everyday fashion as Henry comments further “I don’t want to see you all walking round in your underwear, take hints of inspiration from it”.

Henry and Gemma were so charming throughout the whole interview and really made us bloggers feel equal to them. My favourite part of talking to the pair was when they both divulged their worst fashion mistakes. Whimpering slightly and brushing his hand over his ever famous quiff Henry states “There is a whole year of nu-rave I could easily forget. I used to wear a shell suit, there was even a pair of bright yellow chino’s” he admits. Gemma’s biggest fashion mistake turns out to be a pair of spectacular shoes she bought while at University “I bought these shoes once from a charity shop for like, £3. They were brown PVC with gold leaf on them.” Chuckling Henry retorts “Oh Gemma! I was already feeling sick. Urgh” before Gemma continues “I wore them out in Soho with the intention of getting very drunk and they broke while I was out. Yeah, that was pretty bad.”

From this our conversation turned to the ever present links between the fashion and music worlds and how they effect and rely upon one another. Looking thoughtful Henry comments “It’s a two way street, images gives you a sense of who the musician really is.” Nodding in agreement Gemma replies “People on the street are fascinating. Most of the time you can tell what music people listen to by the way they dress, especially in certain areas. I find it fascinating to find out who peoples fashion inspirations are, it is usually bloggers and bands.”

Talking of bloggers quickly turns the conversation to how bloggers have come into the spotlight in recent times gaining a lot of media attention. Commenting on how the digital era acts as an immediate means of communication and how this makes everything much easier, Henry seems at ease praising the work and devotion of bloggers. He encourages us to continue keeping fashion a discussion and not a dictation swayed by advertising or free gifts, complimenting that bloggers are a lot friendlier and easier to talk to than most Fashion Journalists he has come across. Henry also warns “Never read the comments however. God! Never read the comments unless you want to kill yourself” at which the whole table erupts with laughter in remembrance of times they have done this themselves. At the time of the conversation both Kingdom Of Style and Mademoiselle Robot had been guest Frock Me judges on the show, of which Gemma commented which much admiration “They’ve all been so lovely and really knowledgeable when it comes to fashion, very insightful”.

After lots of gossiping and sharing of stories it was sadly time for us to say goodbye to Henry and Gemma who had kept us encapsulated for almost a whole hour. Sadly there is lots I can’t share with you, however I hope you enjoyed the bits I have.

Here is a little behind the scenes snippet with Alexa and Henry on the American trend:

Nail Art

Saturday 8th May 2010 - 5 Comments

So I can’t take credit for this, it was all Gem Fatale’s idea, check out her blog here. However I can spread the joy, by using black liquid eye liner you can draw awesome patterns on your nails such as the leopard print design Gem has featured on her blog, or keep it more simple like the polka dot nails I can done. The coral colour I used is called ‘Orange Soda’, which makes it even better! Robyn loves Orange Soda oh yes I do, I do, I do-ooo. Simply base coat your nails and then paint them in your background colour. Then use the eyeliner to dot the polka dots and cover in a topcoat to seal the look. I love this tip so much, I think WAH nails have been given a run for their money,

Daisy Lowe & Matt Smith

Just another reason why I think Daisy Lowe is a bit of a hero, she’s “just having fun” with Doctor Who. Insert cheesy “sonic screwdriver” themed joke here,
